Nic Vannatta is a Los Angeles–based narrative cinematographer originally from Anchorage, Alaska. He moved to LA at 18, beginning his career as a camera assistant on feature films, music videos, and commercials. These early experiences helped him build a strong technical foundation while shaping his own visual language in his spare time.

Nic’s love for cinematography began at a young age—ever since his mom first pointed a miniDV camera at him, he was more interested in holding it than being in front of it. Raised in a military family, he credits his father, an Air Force veteran, with instilling the discipline and work ethic that now define his approach on set.

His cinematographic style leans toward naturalism, often recreating the way sunlight interacts with a space—allowing characters to exist within a world that feels lived-in and grounded. His work spans genres including romantic comedy, horror, and character-driven drama, and he’s especially eager to take on a sci-fi project.

Outside of film, Nic spends his time shooting photography, experimenting with new camera systems, or gaming with his brother.
